Our History
Schengen Peace Foundation was initiated in 2005 as a not-for-profit charity approved by His Royal Highness Henri the Grand Duke of Luxembourg on 19 October 2007. It was founded by Hubert Rohde of Germany and the artist Matt Lamb of the United States with the purpose to elevate peace as a goal and connect peace builders. Hubert Rohde’s son, Dominicus Rohde, was its President until his untimely passing in 2022.
TheWorld Peace Forum initially took place each year in Schengen. Hubert Rohde noted with his French friend, Pierre Brunel, that they were the first generation not telling war stories to their children. “If we can do it, others can too,” they said.
The Luxembourg Peace Prize as part of the Schengen Peace Foundation was initiated in 2012 to award outstanding peacemakers. Since 2015 the Luxembourg Peace Prize has been a one day event, where we honor our Laureates and award prizes in 13 categories.
We are told today, that we have more peace categories of any organization for the longest length of time.
